Important Updates to Our Membership
We are making changes to how we manage our membership rolls! Current members, you may (or may not!) know that when you first signed up for membership in Video Trust, you were signing up for automatic renewal. This isn’t good for a lot of you and, frankly, not very good for us!
Throughout the months of June and July 2026, we will be switching over to annual membership dues and a unified membership renewal period each year in the month of August.
For you, the end result is no more surprise charges at a random-feeling date to your credit card.
For us, the end result will mean:
knowing exactly who our membership is so we can best support you
more confident budget projections for each year so we can program accordingly and effectively
How we’re going to do it
This will be a multi-step process and it will require your involvement at multiple points along the way.
For starters, we’re going to pause new member sign-up during this process. We’d love to have you, but sit tight until August when membership sign-ups re-open under our new unified dues renewal plan!
Our next step will be to contact each person currently paying membership dues and ask you to complete a very brief form to let us know whether your ongoing membership is intentional or not.
Accounts whose email addresses bounce back will be manually removed from our rolls as quickly as possible. There will be two reminder emails before we’ll need to manually remove any non-respondents from our membership rolls. Members will have until July 15 to respond to the survey. If you did not respond to the survey, you will be notified when we cancel your membership.
Here’s where it gets awkward. We manage our membership through SquareSpace and there is no way we can switch you over to a one-time payment plan! This is an action that our members will have to do themselves.
By July 20, members who confirmed they actually want to be members, will receive an email with step-by-step instructions for cancelling what SquareSpace thinks is a subscription. This email will be your signal that it’s time to cancel your subscription.
By very early August, we’ll reach out to individual members with pro-rated invoices for the coming membership year. In other words, if you paid your full membership dues for the 2025-26 year (and you did!) but this change is happening only 8 months after your auto-renewal, then the customized invoice for the 2026-27 year will be pro-rated to an amount equivalent to only 8 months. If we were to math this example out and you began your “subscription” prior to 2025 when annual dues were still $40, then the monthly cost of your “subscription” is $3.33 ($40/12). 8 month’s worth of your annual “subscription” fee means your customized invoice for 2026-27 would be $26. If you joined Video Trust in 2025 or later when membership dues were raised to $50, then the customized invoice would be $33.
Opportunities for new members to join will re-open as early as possible in August 2026, our soon-to-be standard annual renewal month.
Membership Opportunities
Please check back in August when membership sign-ups re-open under a new system!
